There are six boroughs in Merseyside which contain some of the most deprived wards in the country. Research suggests that people who live in areas of high deprivation often suffer disproportionately from pollution and have worse local environments with problems such as litter, lack of green space and derelict buildings there are many challenges facing Merseyside. The Community Foundation for Merseyside helps develop positive community development and social change by facilitating giving to local causes that people care about through strategic grant-making for charities and community groups in Merseyside.

Local knowledge of need

Our experience shows that small charities led by local people have the greatest understanding of local issues and are able to make the most impact with small amount of money. Our research shows 78.9% of these groups have found it harder to access funding in the last 12 months due to the economic challenges and austerity measures taken locally. Now more than ever your support is needed to help these groups continue their essential work locally supporting our communities.

Helping to change people's lives

Our vision is to enrich the lives of people in and around Merseyside and through them create united, thriving and prosperous communities. Our strategy is to understand the needs of local communities and donors and, by creating partnerships and involving donors, ensure that these needs are met. The charity was set up in 1999 and has grown to distribute over £5million in grants on behalf of around 60 partners and donors.

Small amounts lead to big changes

We are experts in reaching smaller, volunteer led groups which help people to help themselves and make a great difference with a smaller amount of money. Since being established we supported over 7,000 charities and community groups which helped over 450,000 people across Merseyside
