Quartet Community Foundation

Quartet Community Foundation has been working across the West of England for 25 years, connecting people who really want to make a difference in their local community with voluntary groups who are passionate about making things happen. Last year 1077 grants, totalling 2.5m were awarded from over 230 funds created by individuals, families, charitable trusts, local businesses and statutory organisations.

Our endowment fund is now worth £16.6m and in the last financial year we received £3.7m in donations from our supporters, who all want to make a positive contribution to the West of England.

We support a diverse range of activities that help to build strong, vibrant communities across Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We assess and give grants to groups addressing priority needs in these communities and for whom a small amount of money can make a big difference.

Ross Ancell, Chair of the Churngold Group, has been working with the Foundation since 1997 to channel charitable funds to the local community. “We want to help people locally, where the majority of our business is undertaken and our workforce lives,” said Ross. “Initally our fund was set up to meet immediate needs and we continue to do this through our revenue fund each year. Our relationship with the Community Foundation has developed over time and we have come to appreciate the benefits of looking at our giving strategically.

In 2009 the Chandler Close Residents’ Association, in Weston near Bath, was awarded a grant of £1,920 from a local donor through the Community Foundation. “I applied for the grant to be able to subsidise a monthly lunch for a year that would provide a regular social occasion for residents,” said resident John Richardson. “I found the application process very easy and straightforward.” Now there is a thriving social life with two or three different group activities, organised by the residents, each week.
