Lambeth Summer Projects Trust

Lambeth Summer Projects Trust

C/o Gipsy Hill Police Station, 66 Central Hill, Lambeth, London, SW12 0BL

We endeavour to tackle the issues of crime, deprivation and poverty through diversionary means.

The Lambeth Summer Projects Trust (LSPT) is a voluntary organisation which was set up 24 years ago to defuse tension and address the issues of disorder on the streets of Lambeth at that time. Since then we have continued working in partnership with Lambeth Police, the community and other agencies by providing crime diversionary summer activities for those aged 9 to 16 every summer.During the serious disorder on the streets of this country during summer 2011 we once again achieved our aims.
Why the community needs this charity

We recognise the need to encourage about 500 young people to use their leisure time constructively, hence the need for the projects. The community benefit knowing that hundreds of occupied during the long holidays and not just wandering the streets. We promote volunteering and each year we have at least 40 volunteers who, by working along side project staff gain experience.

Results and outcomes

The educational aspect of the projects helps develop skills and understanding.Young people have the chance to stay safe, healthy and fit, get involved in decision making, increase self-worth and self-assurance, meet new friends and improve social and cultural understanding. Parents know children are in a safe environment. The projects enable them to enjoy costly activities that they would not usually be able to access.

Volunteers Required

Qualifications or skills are an advantage but not necessary. Interaction with inner city young people, getting along with fellow staff members and a willingness to operate as part of a team is important.
