Support to women in Northumberland who have experienced domestic abuse at any time in their lives

Services provided include: risk assessment and referral of women at high risk to MARAC (Multi-agency Risk Assessment Conference) led by police; safety plan and action plans; help with accessing legal, medical, financial and housing advice; accompanying to court, child protection meetings and other agency appointments; help with travel and childcare costs; outreach and home visits; structured and more informal group work; one-to-one counselling and support; onward referral and signposting.
Why the community needs this charity

Domestic abuse is a hidden problem which affects all members of the families it occurs in, including children. Women suffering this abuse may develop physical as well as mental health problems. Since 2003 SixtyEightyThirty has helped over 800 such women to deal with their abusive situations and to live safely. We do this by ensuring that women have the appropriate legal, financial and housing advice. They can have one-to-one support and/or join our regular in-house self esteem courses.

Results and outcomes

SixtyEightyThirty is user led and has service users on the management committee. November 2010 clients of SixtyEightyThirty along with staff organised a training event for frontline workers from all organisations across the county called 'In Our Shoes'. This was so frontline workers could learn to understand the often complex situations and deal with them appropriately.
