WHALE is based in an area of urban social housing with pockets of extreme deprivation. WHALE tackles some of the issues our community faces by developing targetted arts programmes that enable people to make positive life changes.
Over 1,300 local people each year participate in WHALE activities. They have an opportunity to express their creativity in arts activities they would otherwise be excluded from, which can lead on to college, improved health and other benefits.
WHALE will be hosting 20 events, performances and exhibitions in the local area, both in WHALE Arts' centre and in local community spaces. Professional, local and amateur artists and companies will all be invited to participate in these high profile opportunities for local people to celebrate their involvement in the arts. Workshops and talks will also give us the opportunity to examine our practice and the impact we've had on the community. read more
