RCAN is the rural development organisation working across Nottinghamshire. RCAN provides specialist rural knowledge and intelligence to influence and advocate for Nottinghamshire's rural communities to ensure that rural people have the same opportunities and services available to them as others.
Why the community needs us60 people got to education, work or training on a moped provided by Wheels to Work. Approx 200 new learners over 50 years old were taught to use computers through the IT Champions training scheme; older people were enabled to live in their own homes, supported by befriending volunteers. 100 young people acquired basic, practical life skills and self esteem on the CAST fishing project. We also supported rural communities to gain funding for their project, and trained people on suicide awareness.
Our impact on the community124 people were taught about issues that lead people towards suicide; 104 village hall committees had advice given; 14 new Parish Plans were developed, enabling communities to plan for themselves, and residents to get involved; 42 volunteer drivers became more aware of their responsibilities through training provided by the Rural Access to Services Partnership; We supported several schools and community groups to grow vegetables with children.
We are looking for volunteers with IT skills who would like to help deliver basic computer skills to people who have never used a computer before. Volunteers are also needed by the Rural Bassetlaw Befriending scheme: to support older individuals who might want companionship and trips out, to give support & encourage older people to become more physically active and to support social groups of older people who might need help with organising or transport.
