Age UK Suffolk is local independent charity. It's mission is to 'enable older people and their families to manage the challenges of ageing whilst retaining choice and control in their lives'.It campaigns with and for older people; listens to older people and gets their voices heard; works with local communities to develop local sustainable support for older residents; and offers a range of services to enable older people to remain independent.
Why the community needs usAge UK Suffolk provides services to increasing numbers of older people and their family carers in Suffolk including: information help centres, benefits advice, advocacy, independence advisors, befriending, day centres, home help, dementia support and links to lunch and social clubs and other community support. Services provided enable older people in Suffolk to stay independent and healthy and helps to prevent social isolation, poverty and depression, making a real difference to their lives.
Our impact on the communityAge UK Suffolk enables older people, many of whom are frail and vulnerable, to access advice and information to be better informed and to remain independent and less isolated. Last year we reached more than 21,000 older people with the help of 54 full-time and 391 part-time staff and 772 volunteers. In 2014-15 over £7,500,000 of benefits was gained for older people and 10,171 people accessed information and advice. Increased numbers received other services which improved their lives.
Most of us know volunteering is a good thing and improves our general wellbeing. By volunteering with Age UK Suffolk you will be giving something back to a generation of people that are often forgotten.
