Aware Defeat Depression is the only NI charity fighting depression and it's devastating effects here
Aware Defeat Depression aims to promote a future where people can talk about their mental health openly, access services appropriate to their needs and gain the skills and knowledge to maintain positive mental health. We attain these objectives by providing vital mental health education and practical workshops, a Helpline and 21 active support groups throughout Northern Ireland all easily accessed through self referral, GPs or social services.
Why the community needs usOur core work is embedded in our local community and is carried on day and daily through our programmes. Our services are available to the whole community from Mental Health First Aid for staff at the frontline in the NHS and public services; Living Life to the Full; Moodmatters for young people in school; Mindfulness the de-stressing practice of living in the moment; a Helpline; and 21 support groups meeting together all over NI each week to help one another day to day, living with depression.
Our impact on the community
We train volunteers to co ordinate/facilitate support groups of their peers dealing with depression in their lives. We also have volunteers who help with fundraising and raising awareness of our work.
