Disability...no limits.
Calvert Trust Kielder was founded 30 years ago on a vision of a society where disability is not a barrier to opportunity and fulfilment. We challenge expectations of what can be achieved by disabled people and encourage all our visitors to participate in exciting adventurous activities. Our respite facility offers people with the most complex disabilities a chance to enjoy independence from family and carers and to discover that 'it's what you CAN do that counts'.
Why the community needs usEach year we help thousands of adults and children with disabilities to take part in activities they may not otherwise have had the opportunity to enjoy. Many of our visitors have never even had a holiday before. To do this, and to take part in activities which enable them to achieve their potential, is an invaluable experience, often a truly life-changing one, and each visit provides the opportunity to try something new in a safe and caring environment.
Our impact on the communityEveryone has the right to enjoyment and fulfilment, but many disabled people are denied access to activities and facilities that would help them to develop emotionally and physically. We challenge expectations of what can be achieved by disabled people and encourage all our visitors to participate in exciting adventurous activities. The results can be amazing - from improved coordination and communication, to reduced isolation, better emotional well-being and greater self-esteem.
