COUNT ME IN. We provide workshops and activities that encourage everyone to enjoy playing with music
We work with people of all abilities, but especially young people and adults who have physical and learning disabilities. We believe music can cross boundaries, build friendships, help people communicate, and create connections.Because we use instruments that are easy to play - drums and tuned percussion - we can give people a genuine experience of creative fun. Our teams' music skills help to draw out peoples' musicality and potential. Music does help us feel better about ourselves.
Why the community needs usAt the moment we are working with young people aged 16 to 25 who have a range of learning needs. These young people need a safe place where they can engage in structured activities without being judged or pressurized. They may be living in isolated places and are often dependent on parents or carers for their support and transport needs. We hope that by bringing them together with a common purpose they will make new friends, develop their self confidence independence - whilst having a good time.
Our impact on the communityEach young person will identify a learning target for themselves - this may be social or music based. We will work together to help them meet these targets. As the group progresses we will begin to think about co-leading music workshops, and find opportunities to go out and share our skills in the local communities.
We could consider a volunteer placement for a young musician who would be interested in becoming a community music leader and is interested in working with young people who have learning needs.
