Supporting local families in times of need.
We support local families facing a variety of difficulties; including twins, triplets; loneliness and isolation; ill health; post-natal depression; disabilities of parents or children; bereavement; relationship difficulties; lone-parenting and coping with several pre-school children.
Why the community needs usColchester is home to one of the largest military garrisons. Home-Start is a recognised charity that supports military families, schemes are set up in British Forces Germany and Cyprus providing families posted back to the U.K with a familiar service. Out of Colchester's 27 wards: St Annes, St Andrews, Berechurch and Harbour are identified as "most deprived" according to the Index of Deprivation 2010. We aim to support local families facing a variety of difficulties.
Our impact on the communityWhat families that have been supported by Home-Start say:
"Home-Start was my shining light at the end of what often seemed to be a very long and dark tunnel."
"If it hadn't been for her I don't know what I would have done."
"When I look back and see how far my family has come I feel a real sense of pride and achievement. We owe a lot to Home-Start."
"My volunteer has been my lifeline. Without her I would not be where I am today."
Home-Start Colchester would like to recruit volunteers with various skills. Home-start Colchester is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer regular support friendship and practical help to young families, who are going through difficult times, in their own homes. We now have 3 new projects and we would like to recruit mentors to support children 5 - 11 years. Volunteers to help plan and deliver healthy eating agendas. Volunteers to support parents at difficult times.
