We are providing an ice rink in Central Milton Keynes for all the community to enjoy.
MKICE is a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to providing an ice rink in Milton Keynes while the Leisure Plaza is redeveloped.Set-up and run by volunteers from ice hockey and figure skating, we plan to be inclusive in enabling all ages and abilities to enjoy ice skating; whether it be on public sessions, learn-to-skate courses, one-to-one coaching or by joining a team.
Why the community needs usWe will be home to the existing clubs from the Leisure Plaza, giving 100's of their members a place to continue to take part in their sport. The closure of the Leisure Plaza has seen participation numbers at junior level, at MK Storm Junior Ice Hockey, and in figure skating, drop by over 50% due to the requirement to travel to Coventry to continue training. Including other age groups, we have calculated that over 130,000 sports visits will be lost in Milton Keynes during the Rink Re development
Our impact on the communityWith the assistance of the Milton Keynes Council we are working hard to achieve this in the centre of Milton Keynes. However, we also need the support of local businesses and individuals. For those seeking the easy route; making a donation via this page will provide much needed funds. For those who prefer a challenge; volunteer your time, skills, or materials and take a hands-on approach to building and running a successful community project.
We are run by volunteers, so we are seeking people to help with entrance, skate hire supervision, cleaning, ice maintenance, building maintenance.
