Nourish Community Foodbank is an independent foodbank that provides emergency food, provisions and support to individuals and families in a time of financial crisis across the Borough of Tunbridge Wells and South Tonbridge. The charity aims to help the most vulnerable in society who need a safety net and do not know where to turn. Nourish Community Foodbank was established in November 2012 and in the last ten years it has grown from a small community group to an essential charity which is depended upon by over 200 frontline referral agencies.

The consequences of food poverty can be far reaching, including increased crime, loss of tenancies, mental health problems and family breakdown. Nourish can help provide more positive outcomes by offering a period of respite and an opportunity for change.

Why the community needs us
It is often the case that the underlying issues of a crisis are complex and the need for referral to Nourish is caused by a multitude of factors. Unemployment/Redundancy, Debt Problems and Benefit Changes tend to follow someone losing their job and these account for over 46% of the reasons why people used our service in 2021/2022. Worryingly, we saw a growth to 35% in clients referred to us as a result of relationship breakdowns and domestic violence.

Our impact on the community
In 2021/2022 the charity made over 13,047 deliveries to people in crisis. Nourish is unique in that we deliver food parcels directly to their clients and strive to discourage a culture of dependency, preferring to support families and individuals in crisis until they are able to move on. Volunteers needed

We are looking for volunteers for Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am - 12pm shifts for packing and driving.
