THE PLYMOUTH DEAF CHILDREN'S SOCIETY IS AN LOCAL DEAF CHILDRENS CHARITY AFFILIATED TO THE NDCS.
The Plymouth Deaf Children's society is an associated branch of NDCS. Our aim is to support families of hearing impaired children, by giving them the chance to meet other families through events and activites. This gives parents a forum in which they can discuss their own experiences of dealing with a child with deafness, but at the same time having fun with their children and helping the whole family with inclusive activities that may otherwise not be so easily accessible.
Why the community needs usWe help families of Deaf children by providing a forum and a place to feel included and relaxed with thier childs disability.
We welcome all, and whenever possible invest our money back in to local businesses. By supporting and using the facilities they offer, often negotiating on behalf of our members any accessibility issues.
Our impact on the communityDeaf children who are able to socialise with their disabled peers outside of mainstream school settings, are in the most happier to be able to share experiences. and feel the benefit from sharing their worries concerns with another deaf child. One deaf child said "I'm a cool kid here" The value of getting together with others is priceless. Families talking through issues with other families can be extremely valuable and uplifting experience relieving that feeling of "why is this happening"
