PRISM aims to offer disengaged, disadvantaged and disabled young people unique opportunities which empower them to make demonstrable improvements to the quality of their lives and learn skills to improve their chances of employability in the future. We do this by providing daytime alternative educational programmes and evening youth groups which combine accredited work with fun.
Why the community needs usPrism works with 500 young people per year, a large percentage referred to us suffer a multitude of social & economical disadvantage and live in areas of severe deprivation. Prism believes that Young People need to feel valued and their contribution to the community recognised so we strive to increase their aspirations and life choices by increasing their self esteem and building their confidence. Over three sites we deliver a variety of courses to suit individual needs.
Our impact on the communityAlternative learning packages are delivered in a fun way by experienced Youth Work Staff using a variety of learning styles & real life scenarios young people can relate to. Many different tools are used from multi media activities, debates, performing & sport to mucking out at the farm, growing vegetables and sheep shearing.
90% of young people attending Prism attain some form of accreditation and for some it is the only national recognised qualification they have ever achieved
There are many opportunities for volunteers to get involved in the various projects we are currently running. To safeguard our young people all our volunteers are required to complete an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Check.
