Refugee Resource aims to relieve distress, improve well-being and facilitate the integration of refugees and asylum seekers - mainly in Oxfordshire - by providing practical, social and psychological support
Why the community needs usRefugees have fled persecution and conflict and have often had traumatic experiences. Our clients come from places with poor human rights records like Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Sudan. They are resilient and determined, but they need our support. For those who find safety in the UK, there are still huge barriers to face: understanding the culture and systems, transferring their skills and qualifications, improving their English language skills and starting again when they have lost so much.
Our impact on the communityRefugee Resource provides counselling, mentoring, coaching, and an employment service. We also run a women's group and a therapeutic allotment project.
To date we have worked with over 1000 clients, supporting them to integrate, increase their confidence, and feel less isolated. Through our work we enable clients to move on, re-build their lives and contribute to the community.
One client says, 'I was alone in the world but feel I have a family and a home when I come to Refugee Resource'.
We offer volunteer opportunities in mentoring, coaching, fundraising and admin work placements.
