We are creating a new sustainable model for women's centres.
We are negotiating to buy a site in St James St E17 4SQ where we plan to build housing that will fund the creation of a women's centre on the ground floor. The centre will have a cafe open to all, hot-desking, a creche, meeting spaces, and spaces for women's charities working on violence against women, increasing gender equality and supporting women into employment. We also hope to have a garden for growing food on the roof. If this succeeeds, we hope to replicate the model elsewhere.
Why the community needs usWe will be providing a cafe and meeting spaces where local individuals and groups can meet, network and organise for a range of community objectives. We will be providing spaces for women's charities working on key gender issues to share resources, collaborate and support each other. We will be providing support and training for women wanting to start their own business, and hot-desking with a creche to give them an affordable way to begin.
Our impact on the communityWe expect to see more young women being supported in relationships, more support for victims of rape, domestic violence and FGM, reduction in loneliness for older women who can socialise in a safe environment, more women enabled to start and grow their own businesses, more opportunities for parents and carers to engage in social and cultural activities while their children are in the creche.
