A weekly club for older people in Chichester to meet & socialise to reduce isolation & make friends.
We are a happy group of men & women who meet at St. Michael's Hall, Summersdale, to play games like Scrabble & Whist, providing mental stimulation, & also sharing tea together. We have excellent volunteers who help transport frail members. We run outings 3-4 times a year to local attractions they wouldn't otherwise be able to get to, which are well received by our members. Funding our club can prove challenging and we are keen that it should continue to help older people in the community.
Why the community needs usAs one of our members has said, "It gets us out and we can forget about our troubles for a couple of hours". Increasingly older people are isolated in their own homes without the opportunity to meet like-minded friends. We help keep older people in the community engaged with one another and, most importantly, add to their quality of life in widening their horizons and increasing their feeling of wellbeing and involvement in the community.
Our impact on the communityThe club has been running for 30 years, every week on a Tuesday afternoon. Members very much look forward to their regular meetings which provide a life-line for some. The club also aims to offer local outings such as a visit to West Dean Gardens, or Stansted Park, all subject to available funding.
We are looking for a volunteer to help us for 2 hours a week on Tuesday afternoons. The volunteer will need to be able to set up and dismantle tables/furniture in the room and also be willing to join in with playing games in the group (e.g. Scrabble). Ideally we are looking for someone who is friendly, wants to get involved in the local community and cares about the welfare of older people. Please call Mrs Cecily Small on (01243) 528350 for more information.
