Building a maintenance fund for the memorials to Trooper Potts VC and the Berkshire Yeomanry
1.To promote good citizenship by the provision of a monument in central Reading to commemorate the achievements of the Berkshire Yeomanry, past and present and in particular Trooper Potts VC and Trooper Andrews & commemorate the 416 men of the Berkshire Yeomanry. 2. To advance the education of the public in the events during 1914-18 and about such deeds, comradeship, their setting, implications and relevance today. 3. To advance appreciation of the arts, in particular sculpture.
Why the community needs us1 The enduring memorial to the First World War Centenary in Reading. 2 It is the only memorial to the Berkshire Yeomanry which lists the names of all 426 men, from all walks of lives, who gave their lives in the service of their country, 3. Information boards + education outreach advance understanding of 1914-18 events 4. The sculpture, by an artist of national repute, will advance appreciation of art 5. Educational outreach though Reading College students builds skills and awareness.
Our impact on the communityA.The memorial outside Forbury Gardens, Reading, unveiled on 4 October 2015 is composed of ; 1. A life size bronze sculpture which tells the VC story at Gallipoli. 2 Roll of Honour in bronze, 3.Information boards about The Berkshire Yeomanry, Gallipoli and the VC deed, B. place for reflection. C. Educational outreach to Schools (Primary + Secondary) to explain about the event,Reading College students will gain presentation skills& confidence. D. Artist briefings about the business of art.
