Support the mental health and emotional wellbeing of vulnerable women, with Tyneside Women's Health
Tyneside Women's Health exists to support women to improve and maintain their mental health and emotional wellbeing, in order to enable women to achieve their personal potential.
We do this by providing a safe space for women and opportunities for recovery. We deliver mental health courses that enable women to cope with depression, manage anxiety or undo the damage of domestic abuse. We provide one to one counselling and peer support groups. We organise activities that help women feel good.
Why the community needs usThe needs of the women we strive to meet include low confidence, which affects 73% of first time service users. Depression was reported by 70% of women during their first appointment, while anxiety affected 67%. 53% of women reported feeling lonely and isolated. 35% of women shared that their wellbeing has been harmed because of being abused. Although the majority of our service users have common mental health problems, 26% of our serivce users have severe and enduring mental health issues.
Our impact on the communityIn July 2010, Tyneside Women's Health evaluated services by learning from service users and referrers of service users, such as psychiatrists and social workers. Referrers reported excellent or very good outcomes for the women they referred.Women reported that mental health courses reduce symptoms by between 37% and 60%. 61% of counselling clients increase their ability to cope with challenges, whilst members of peer support groups improve their quality of life and reduce isolation.
