Young People of the Year or 'YOPEY' is a campaign to give young people a fairer image in the media - and wider society as a whole - by 'revealing, recognising and rewarding' young unsung heroes and setting them up as positive role models for other young people to emulate.
Why the community needs usBy doing this YOPEY believes it can improve relations between the generations, reduce fear and paranoia among adults about young people, and help turn entries into our contests - and other young people - into good citizens. We are working towards a better future society.
Our impact on the communityMore than 5,000 young unsung heroes have been 'revealed' by entering over 50 YOPEY contests since the first in 2005, about 2,000 have been 'recognised' with positive stories in the media, and hundreds have been rewarded with over £140,000 in prizes that they share with the community.
We are always on the look out for people who have experience of putting on public performances such as plays and concerts to help us run our awards ceremonies. We also welcome young people with driving licences and access to a vehicle who would like to learn such skills as sound and lighting and operating an autocue.
