I will be doing a non-stop, 10km swim around the perimeter of Plymouth Sound. Starting and finishing at the shingle beach below The Terrace Café on the Hoe, the swim will involve crossing the mouth of the Plym and Tamar rivers, the eastern and western entrances to the Sound, and along Plymouth Hoe and Breakwater. This is a personal challenge for me but is also a sponsored event for Horizons (Plymouth). Horizons is a registered charity set up to take disadvantaged and disabled young people from the inner-city communities of Plymouth afloat. Through the experience of water-based activities that would normally be beyond their means they provide learning and educational opportunities that increase self-confidence and improve social and practical skills. The event will take place on Sunday 9th August 2015. Route: Generally in a clockwise direction viewed from the air. Leg 1: The Terrace Café on the Hoe, past Royal Corinthians Yacht Club, then across the Cattewater (Plm River)to Mount Batten Breakwater Pier. Leg 2: Batten Breakwater Pier, across Jennyclffe Bay, to Fort Bovisand Leg 3: Fort Bovisand harbour across the eastern entrance to the sound to the eastern tip of Plymouth Breakwater Leg 4: Along Plymouth Breakwater, if weather conditions permit this will be on the outside(southern side)of the Breakwater Leg 5: From Plymouth Breakwater western tip across the western entrance to the Sound to Fort Picklecombe Leg 6; Fort Picklecombe to Wilderness Point in Mount Edgcumbe Country Park Leg 7: Wilderness Point across the Tamar (The Narrows)to Devil's Point in Stonehouse Leg 8: From Devil's Point across the entrance to Millbay and return to the beach below The Terrace Café on the Hoe.
