Marching in March - one step at a time

Joanne, Louise and Sharon are involved with WomenCentre, they say: 'We are raising funds to pay for a coach for women in our community to join us in London to march against gender violence on 5 March 2016 as part of Million Women Rise. WomenCentre helped us and many other women to begin to rebuild our lives after things went wrong for each of us. Rebuilding our lives has taken time and we still struggle each day. Being part of groups and getting involved with WomenCentre has helped us to keep our focus through the bad times. Joining the Million Women Rise March and standing up for what we believe in is an empowering experience which lifted our spirits and gave us confidence in our beliefs. We have spoken in Trafalgar Square about the impact that violence has had on our families and realised we are not alone. We make loads of noise to make it clear that women shouldn’t live in fear. It made us realise just how many women around the world are affected by violence and how much more support there needs to be for women and families. We are passionate about this cause and want other women to have the experience which has helped us. We get support from onlookers and it makes us feel good to be part of this movement. We look forward to this event each year. For 2016 we are determined to put on our own coach and fill it by making places as cheap as possible or free and providing refreshments for those on low incomes who would like to join us. WomenCentre supports women to take active steps in their personal lives, to reduce isolation, build confidence and make healthier choices. In feeling they have a voice women are able to better understand themselves and those around them. Women are encouraged take on key roles within our organisation supporting our work in groups, becoming volunteers and organising events.
