The purpose of Scouting is to develop young people and give them life skills and opportunities they may never get elsewhere. Getting young people outdoors, exploring their environment and challenging their personal capabilities are key drivers behind the Scout Associations programme and training scheme. Over the past few years we have been able to offer our young people a variety of challenge and adventure provided through a mixed and varied programme of activities, camps and expeditions.
Why the community needs usExplorer Scouting enables young people to learn a range of life and practical skills including teamwork, leadership, planning, organising, budgeting, as well as making and building friendships, meeting and working with new people. A recent study found that youth involvement with Scouting increased the chance of that young person volunteering in later life, the skills, attitude and abilities gained through their involvement benefited the community both locally and nationally.
Our impact on the communityOver the last couple of years there has been a resurgence in numbers of young people joining Scouting, Xtreme ESU had 3 members in September 2010, and now has 31 in June 2013. Over the past few years we have been able to offer these young people a variety of challenge and adventure provided through a mixed and varied programme of activities which have included attending National & International Camps, completion of Expeditions, gaining Scout and DofE Awards, Mountaineering and water sports...
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team of Leaders at Xtreme Explorer Scout Unit providing an active and wide ranging Scout programme for 14-18 years olds.You will need to be enthusiastic, motivated and able to work with the age range, no previous experience is required.You do not need to commit to coming every week, whatever time you can offer would be appreciated.This is a volunteer role working with young people, therefore you will need to complete an enhanced CRB check.
