Interacting with horses changes lives! Conquest Centre provides horse-based activities for around 200 people with disabilities each week. Our activities include riding, carriage driving, horse care, student placements and volunteering. We also offer other facilities including a Café run by trainees with additional needs and an outdoor play/picnic area complete with small animals! We provide our services in a fully inclusive environment which welcomes and supports our whole community.
Why the community needs usConquest Centre is unique. Nowhere else in Somerset offers our range of services or our blend of specialist support in an inclusive community environment. As well as running horse-based activities for people with disabilities, we support parents, carers and families and encourage the whole community - particularly people who are disadvantaged - to use our facilities. Everyone from a day centre for adults with learning difficulties to the local rugby club can be found benefiting from our site.
Our impact on the communityWe have massive local support because of the positive impact we make. Monitoring shows our horse-based work helps people with disabilities improve communication, confidence, enjoyment, relationships, physical skills and horsemanship. Feedback from parents and carers includes "Riding sessions are invaluable to her wellbeing - emotionally, socially and physically". Our students and volunteers report they improve skills, confidence, and fitness, and feel this will help them find paid employment.
