The Friends of Adventures community group are currently working hard towards a sustainable solution to staffing the playground. We are working hard to make sure the community is well heard in the movement of management from Council to Sharrow Community Forum. Friends of Adventures sits on the Highfield Adventure Steering Group. And we are applying for funding to make up the extra £30,000 needed to pay for staff in the coming year.
Why the community needs usAdventures is a vital part of a fantastically diverse community in the heart of Sharrow. 27 different languages are spoken at the school next door. It is in the lowest 10% of living environments in the UK and the Church Urban Fund describes the area as having "significantly high levels of child poverty". Sharrow NEEDS this type of venue for play. It also provides an easy place for informal community cohesion as people come to watch their kids play and have a cuppa together!
Our impact on the communityWe aim to help keep the playground Adventurous and not just a normal playground. It has great potential for crime prevention, community cohesion, increasing activity levels and providing adventurous play for all. Highfield Adventure Playground is a free, safe but exciting place for all to enjoy.
