We are a community shop/cafe providing a safe place for those in need to come and relax without fear
Our aim in running a Drop-in Centre and Shop at the Maelfa Centre is to provide a point of contact on neutral ground through which the churches might minister to people of our community...To provide a non threatening environment where people of all races and creeds can meet.To be available for people to talk about confidential matters concerning them and their families. To increase awareness of the local churches and the ministry they offer. To provide reasonably priced nearly-new goods.
Why the community needs usOur community is one of the most disadvantaged in Cardiff. Our Customers benefit from the sale of goods available and have an opportunity to chat and enjoy a 'cuppa'. We help with form filling & signposting to other care agencies. On a Wednesday and Friday morning the Cardiff Foodbank distribute food to those in need. Members of the local Clergy visit regularly and are available to anyone needing their help.
Our impact on the communityWe have seen an increase in Customers needing help in different ways and have provided clothes & equipment in a crisis. The assistance given by the Food Bank is invaluable and expanding. The dedication and service of the Volunteers cannot be overlooked and both Volunteers and Customers have expressed their dependence and appreciation for the difference the project has made in their lives. The presence of the Project and the help and hope it offers is vital to those most in need
We need volunteers willing to work in our second hand shop and cafe. The Project is open Monday - Friday 10.00a.m to 3.00 p.m. Volunteers should be sympathetic towards the aim and recognise the purpose of the project as we try to meet the needs of those struggling with various difficulties both physical and psychological .No experience or qualifications are required but must be able to demonstrate consideration and courtesy
