Working to support families in need in Newtown

The Charity works to relieve the need amongst the local community through the provision of a range of supportive activities. These include the provision of information and advice, training and education opportunities, helping to develop positive relationships between people of different ages and ethnicities. Projects have ranged from Employment Advice, Parenting courses, After School Homework and Parent and Child clubs, and holiday Study Support for children aged 9 - 11 years.
Why the community needs this charity

Projects address needs such as unemployment or low skilled temporary employment especially for migrant and agency workers. Transferable skills , volunteering and self development opportunities are identified. Parents and children participating in projects gain life skills, confidence and strenghten their abilities to learn, change and understand those around them. This helps parents and children remain engaged with education, training and personal development.

Results and outcomes

Through one to one work with our Employment Advice worker individuals have learnt to identify transferable skills, use volunteer opportunities to access training and work experience moving on to permanent work and self employment. Parenting courses enable parents to develop better relationships with their family, giving them the skills to enjoy their children. Study Support targets those underachieving for various reasons, giving them confidence, better social and academic skills.
