To ensure persons with disabilities have the same opportunities to access buildings and training as everyone and become an integrated part of our community building their shills and self esteem
Why the community needs usThere are an estimated 10,200 people with disabilities - wheelchairs, deafness or sight in the South Somerset area who can benefit. We undertake access reviews of:- *Village Halls and public buildings *Dropped kerbs *Training for volunteers
Our impact on the communityBy working with Yeovil Town Council, Town Centre Partnership and Highways, recommendations were made to improve pathways through Yeovil and other towns. We have also made recommendations to improve Public buildings and worked on planning applications with SSDC. We have trained a number of volunteers in Disability Awareness Training. All this results in disabled persons becoming more closely involved in their local community and raising their self esteem
Would you like to develop new skills? We are keen to hear from persons with skills and time to work on Twitter, our Web page or Facebook and to work on some very high tech software to produce publicity leaflets. Would you like to learn how to do access reviews on next years polling stations so that persons with disabilities can vote as can anyone else. And lots more - contact us on info@southsomersetdisabilityforum.co.uk to learn more
