South & Vale Carers Centre

South & Vale Carers Centre

5 Lydalls Road, Didcot, Oxfordshire, OX11 7HX

We offer face-to-face emotional and practical advice and support to unpaid carers of all ages.

The South & Vale Carers Centre offers information, advice and face-to-face support. In particular we assist with the completion of complex forms; including Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, and Carers Allowance. We also provide a benefit check service and representation at tribunals, as well as offering short breaks to both adult and young carers.
Why the community needs this charity

Within any local community, at least 10% of people are carers. We work to support carers in South Oxfordshire and Vale of the White Horse, ensuring that they and their families are getting all the financial help that they are entitled to, and providing them with information about the services available to support them in their caring role. We additionally offer the opportunity for carers to have a break and meet with other carers.

Results and outcomes

During 2010/2011 the South & Vale Carers' Centre provided 1,147 carers with individual information, advice, emotional and practical support. We made 769 home visits. We gave 500 adult carers and 146 young carers short breaks. We produced 10,000 copies of the "Caring for Someone in Oxfordshire Guide" and distributed these to carers and professionals across the county. Finally, our outcome for support with complex form filling and representation at Tribunals totalled £415,000.
