Why the community needs usThrough the support offered by buddies to students, Learning Links encourages participation in public life, promotes positive attitudes towards people with learning disabilities, helps to eliminate discrimination and dispel perceived prejudices and fears.
Our impact on the communityPeople with learning disabilities often have to overcome enormous hurdles in order to access learning and social activities that most people take for granted. Getting out and joining a group of others who have the same interests enhances life skills, cognitive and social development, reduces isolation and ultimately promotes self-esteem, confidence and independence. It promotes integration within their own community, whilst giving them the opportunity to learn new or develop exisiting skills.
We need adults of all ages who would like to go to a wide range of adult and community learning classes or social and leisue activities as a buddy for an adult with learning difficulties.
You do not need any special skills, experience or qualifications. All you need is to give your time.
Buddies' course fees are supported by adult education providers, leisure centres and ourselves.
