Since January I have run more than 390km in training for the Southampton Half Marathon and was confident of beating my 2 hour target. Unfortunately 2 weeks before the event I injured my left knee and had to rest… Not wishing to let down any sponsors I started the event on a few painkillers and lots of encouragement from Alex, my daughter. After only 4 miles my leg was causing me pain and only increased as I kept going. Despite the discomfort we managed to get to the end in just under 2 hours. A huge thank you to those who have sponsored me. My original fund raising target was £750, but I am very close to raising the magical figure of £1,000! It's not too late to sponsor me if you haven’t already. Why did I do it? In a moment of madness I agreed to run the Southampton Half Marathon with my eldest daughter, Alex (who ran for Equip). I haven’t run for at least 25 years so I have looked for all kinds of excuses to back out…but a commitment is a commitment! Once I made the decision to continue putting myself through all kinds of pain running around the local area, I resolved to find a local worthy cause to raise some sponsorship. As a close neighbour and friend of Claire Morgan, the manager, I didn’t really need to look far for my charity. The Winchester Live at Home Scheme (WLAHS), provide fantastic support and friendship to older people living in their own homes; helping to maintain independent living, improve well-being and reduce isolation. Thank you for your support. Peter
Well done Peter and Alex. Hope you recover soon!
Best wishes and every success for the future and well done Peter. Richard Jackson
