Building stronger communities by helping volunteers bring theatre, music and cinema to their area!
Our work sets out to improve community life through the creative use of the arts. Activities include: Creative Arts East Live! -professional theatre, music and interactive shows for rural communities. Village Screen - touring cinema for small towns and villages. Participatory Projects - a range of volunteering and creative learning opportunities for the young, the elderly and people who face barriers to participation.
Why the community needs usMany people living in rural Norfolk & Suffolk find it difficult to access arts and creative activities due to lack of information, costs of travel or tickets, lack of public transport and other practical barriers. By providing an accessible outreach programme of interesting and challenging activities we can remove many of those barriers. We raise funds so that activities are affordable to those most in need and we support and develop local volunteers so that our efforts can be sustained.
Our impact on the communityIn 2010/11 we: supported over 700 volunteers; subsidised over 300 community events; engaged with over 15,000 people and 90% of people felt less isolated as a result. Other positive outcomes include: a wide range of people have felt challenged, entertained or uplifted as audience members; volunteers and project participants have learnt new skills and broadened their knowledge; communities have become more vibrant and inclusive; and young people have felt motivated and inspired.
Volunteers are required in many roles:
As Board members/trustees - for those with specific relevant skills and knowledge; as office-based admin or publicity volunteers - for those able to make a fairly regular commitment; as Village Stage,Village Screen or Home Grown (Suffolk) promoters - for those wanting to be active in their local community and organise events; as project volunteers - for those wanting to help with short-term participatory projects for younger, older or vulnerable people.
