Diverse Abilities Plus is a Dorset based charity that provides a lifetime of invaluable support and care for many hundreds of children, young people and adults with physical and learning disabilities in our local community. The charity delivers this supprt throughout peoples lives, through a specialist school, respite home, domicillary care to help families in their own homes, school holiday activities and after school clubs, plus supported living and a day opportunities centre for adults.
Why the community needs usDiverse Abilities Plus support and care for over 500 children and adults affected by profound physical and learning disabilities in Dorset, and their families. The charity's lifetime of support for individuals is delivered by a range of projects including a specialist school, children's respite centre, a supported living service and many others. Together these provide close to a quarter a million hours of support every year. Funds raised will enable this vital support to continue and to grow.
Our impact on the communityDiverse Abilities aims to empower disabled people to live normal and fun lives, as independently as possible. Diverse Abilities Plus has supported many hundreds of families since the charity was founded by a brave Mum in the 1950's , and many children cared for by the charity continue to be supported now as adults. Diverse Abilities has also heled hundreds of families adjust and adapt to living with a child who is disabled, providing advice and support through all the difficult times.
We are always on the look out for volunteers within every service we provide. Whether it's going to the football with someone we support, running a fun session within our childrens respite service or helping at fun fundraising events there are opportunities for volunteers to get involved. Please get in touch by emailing: volunteer@diverseabilitiesplus.org.uk r phone 01202 718266
