The JQDT will preserve, develop and enhance this 'remarkable', 'marvellous' and 'authentic' place.
The Jewellery Quarter Development Trust (JQDT) was established on 4 May 2011. It is a Community Interest Company constituted and operated for the benefit of the communities in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter and replaces the Jewellery Quarter Regeneration Partnership. The JQDT will carry out a range of activities for the benefit of all who visit, live, work and learn within the area.
Why the community needs usThe Quarter is an area of specialist jewellery shops and businesses; 4,500 residents; universities, colleges and schools; bars, restaurants and cafes; museums; galleries; and a theatre. However, it suffers from extensive dereliction especially around its 200+ listed buildings. The area has been ignored but the establishment of the JQDT has enabled the community to raise the profile of this unique place and improve the environment for visitors, residents and those that work and learn here.
Our impact on the communityOur raison d'etre is to be the champion of the Regeneration Action Plan, to deliver additional services to the area through the Business Improvement District (BID), to develop sustainable projects that will benefit the community and deliver an income to serve the Trust and deliver the objectives of the JQDT. Our objectives are to improve the economic wellbeing of the area, provide better amenities, facilities and cultural activities. and to encourage initiatives to grow a sense of place.
The Jewellery Quarter Development Trust Board, JQ BID Management Committee and various other support groups are made up of volunteers. We are always seeking people from the community to add skills, enthusiasm and knowledge to these groups.
