New4You: City Centre Youth Groups meet at Plymouth Methodist Central Hall, Drake Circus PL1 1BA
New4You is a city centre youth club. Its aim is to provide a place for young people to have fun together in a relaxed and safe environment. Its objective is to provide the safe environment for them to meet. New4You meets in two age brackets, 11-14s from 6.15pm to 8.15pm and 15 - 18s from 8.15pm - 10.15pm. The younger group follow a relaxed programme of activities whereas the older group opens as a space to meet in. Each group has opportunity for sports, disco area, cafe and chilling out.
Why the community needs usThe City Centre is a magnet for young people during the evenings and in the daytime. At night, too young for the nightclubs and bars, young people often wander round the city centre streets in groups. New4You provides a venue for them to congregate in a safe environment and engage in positive activities or just chill out with their friends. It provides appropriate activities ranging from discos to sports with a cafe and relaxation area. The youth club is part of the ministry of the church.
Our impact on the communityMany of the young people that we meet are from very challenging backgrounds. Some have confronted poverty and deprivation daily for most of their lives. Some are from badly abused backgrounds. Consequently they can be anti-social with a distrust of those in authority. Alcohol and drug abuse are some of the poor choices they make. They come to us weekly and we have seen huge changes in them. Our young volunteers have been amazing at building relationships and serving these young people.
