Dartmoor and East Cornwall Log Bank
Information for clients and referrers
Where we work:
We are prioritising rural areas of multiple deprivation in east Cornwall and Dartmoor. This includes communities around, Launceston, Callington, Gunnislake, the Forest of Dartmoor.
Who we support:
We will consider direct applications from individuals who live in the target areas and either: • recieve out-of-work or disability benefits, and are experiencing acute financial difficulty, or • have a food bank voucher or a fuel bank voucher.
Other organisations may make referrals to the log bank. Please consider whether: • the client is vulnerable • the client is experiencing acute financial difficulty • the client has other heating in their home which they cannot afford (i.e., gas, heating oil, or electric) or: • the client relies solely on wood fuel to heat their home which they cannot afford.Deliveries Due to the number of clients and limited delivery resources, we can no longer deliver logs to individuals in most circumstances. Clients will need to access logs through food banks and similar organisations. We can deliver logs in bulk to organisations which alleviate poverty, for example food banks. While the log bank is a secular organisation, we will deliver to religious organisations provided they serve all people equally.
However, if you live very rurally and either do not own, or for medical reasons cannot drive a vehicle to collect logs, please get in touch by email as we may still be able to make a delivery.
Partners should consider whether a log bank referral is the most appropriate action for the client, or whether a fuel voucher or a cash-first alternative is available.
LANDOWNERS! You can help us tackle fuel poverty in rural Devon and Cornwall.
Did you know that more people in the South West rely on wood to heat their homes than anywhere else in the UK?
Did you know that north Devon and Cornwall are some of the most deprived parts of the UK?
More and more people are facing the choice between eating and heating their homes, and the situation is expected to get worse at the end of the year.
We can remove fallen trees and limbs from gardens, paths, highways and agricultural land for free.
We will turn those trees into firewood and donate it to people in acute financial crisis.Wood that we can take:

The wood needs to be from one of these species: apple, ash, beech, birch, cherry, elm, hawthorn, hazel, holly, hornbeam, oak, plane, rowan, or willow; and cedars, larches, or pines.
We will dispose of material arising from our work by chipping, incineration, or creation of habitat piles.
Wood that we can’t take:

Note that we do not provide arboricultural services. There are other ways in which you can help too! Volunteer! We need drivers with trailer experience to deliver logs to our clients.Funds: We need funds to cover volunteer costs including fuel, and other costs such as insurance.
