The purpose of our group is to provide a safe place for young people to congregate and integrate with other young people and staff. A place of fun and education where disadvantaged young people can access warm food and drinks and take part in a variety of different activities. To provide a warm and friendly environment where staff and volunteers are always prepared and ready to listen to the problems of the young people and offer the correct advice.
Why the community needs usThe specific needs of the community we feel is that of raising aspiration, self esteem and confidence as we see this as the main barrier to success in life.
We feel we make a difference by opening our centre 5 nights per week to 7-11yrs, 12-16yrs &, new to 2012, 17yrs+.
In these sessions we offer fun educational activities to groups as well as one to one support for young people who request it. Offering this wider via the community project increases employability chances, making a difference.
Our impact on the communityWith a track record of 5 years SGYP is known in the area by the community & professionals, the demand is there having young people knocking on the door 5nights a week.
A number of successes in this time via supporting young people into education, employment or training following their school years.
It is great that these young people have stayed in touch with the project and is a great reward to be able to witness their transitions from youth to adulthood and becoming active citizens of society
Volunteer youth & community workers. Main duties would be the building of relationships via supporting staff & young people throughout our evening sessions with 7-11yrs & 12-16yrs, delivering fun educational activities, engaging in conversation, challenging behaviours and attitudes.
