"Tools" provides volunteering opportunities for adults and young people who are unable to work due to a variety of disabilities, health issues, disadvantage or redundancy. Here they undertake voluntary work, refurbishing old tools. Our tools are then donated as trade-specific kits to other charities for long-term projects in Africa, for community projects in Northamptonshire.
Why the community needs usOur primary focus is on the people who attend the workshop, helping them gain motivation, self-confidence and self-esteem despite their various disabilities and disadvantages. In addition, we encourage social skills, with lively interaction amongst all of our staff and volunteers. We also help provide structure in the lives of our volunteers, and the discipline of attending regularly, and on time, whether this be for half a day per week, or more.
Our impact on the communityIn the 12 months to March 31 2017, we had over 70 volunteers, some of whom are long-standing volunteers, and others who were new to us. Between 15-20 volunteers attend our 8 half day sessions in Northampton, . Together, our volunteers created 27 tool kits last year, ranging from gardening kits for local projects to Carpentry . Over 29,500 tools were donated in total.
