A small charity doing big things to support the people, landscape & wildlife of the Yorkshire Dales
YDMT was set up as a registered charity in 1996 to care for the landscape, environment, communities and economy of this special place. We work in partnership with local communities and other organisations to restore wildlife habitats, provide education and outreach, support community initiatives, conserve the heritage of the area, and support the economic life of the area through rural apprenticeships.
Why the community needs usTo date the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust has helped to deliver more than 1,300 projects worth around £28 million in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas. We work as an enabling body to help deliver others' aspirations for the Yorkshire Dales, and we encourage sustainable ways of living and working in this special landscape.
Our impact on the communityTo date more than 1.4 million native broadleaf trees have been planted, creating hundreds of new woodlands. We've helped to improve more than 450 hectares of degraded wildflower hay meadows to their former glory and ensured that more than 40,000 have enjoyed the opportunity to engage with the natural environment through an annual programme of wildflower-themed activities. We've also led more than 7,000 people from disadvantaged urban backgrounds into the Dales for health and well-being benefits.
