Cloth Cat supports disadvantaged people living in inner city Leeds through music based activity
Cloth Cat helps people living in Leeds to increase their quality of life. We provide learning and organise events and other exciting projects through music. These encourage people to re-connect with others, find employment and other educational opportunities. We use music because it has the power to bring people together, build confidence, enable self-expression, enhance creativity, develop the mind and provide an outlet for positive activity, along with learning valuable technical skills.
Why the community needs usCloth Cat gives people continuing support not only delivering a free programme of music courses to those in receipt of benefits, but also on an on-going basis with specific groups eg those with mental health problems, the homeless, disenfranchised youth, older people and helping the rehabilitation of offenders at Armley Prison. We provide resources and run music events for other community organisations and local schools; and organise our own music based events including a weekly Open Mic night.
Our impact on the communityWe have had great results from our work, both within the community and with the groups we have worked with directly. Feedback has shown that many people have gained the skills and been re-engaged back in to work or education following involvement with Cloth Cat. Also, many of those affected by mental health problems have responded positively to attending our workshops. A key worker at Seacroft Hospital said 'The group was a terrific success and we would love to do more of it! Many thanks'
