Preserving Scarborough's important and fascinating history for future generations
To educate the public about Scarborough's important and fascinating history by preserving and displaying artefacts, photographs, books and files dating back 2 centuries. We do talks for schools and community groups, put on regularly changing exhibitions and digitise our records to make them available on the internet.
Why the community needs usThe community really appreciate learning about the town's history. We bring old and young social groups together passing on knowledge from one generation to the next. Volunteers learn new skills with computers and gain confidence by talking with members of the public.
Our impact on the communityOver the past 6 years we have had over 20,000 visitors and our guest book is full of praise for the work we are doing. We have helped many people with family history enquries and our volunteers have grown in knowledge and confidence.
New volunteers always needed to staff our small friendly musuem, do admin work, create new exhibitions, fundraise, help with archives etc
