We meet at Tilehurst Youth & Community Centre and are a voluntary group helping children for whom there is no statutory provision. Opening each Friday evening we provide a wide range of social, educational and recreational activities to meet the needs of the 8-12 age group. These take place in a warm, secure environment in which children can grow and develop with support from and experienced staff team. This staff steam comprises adults and junior leaders.
Why the community needs usThe Junior Club provides children in Tilehurst with a positive experience, diverting them away from anti social behaviour and giving them an opportunity to learn new skills. They can make new friends and access support from staff and their peers. Those who are disadvantaged are able to integrate with their children of their own age and young people transferring from Primary to Secondary School are able to experience stability at a time when much is changing in their lives.
Our impact on the communityWe provide a venue and activities that children will find interesting, fun and stimulating. We want them to have something positive to do that is educational and challlenging. We will be catering for a diverse range of young people, each learning from each other and having opportunities not available to them at school.
We are seeking volunteers to work with children in the 8 - 12 year old age group. The work involves helping to organise a range of activities including Arts, Sports, Competitions, Games and Social activities. No previous experience necessary but we are seeking committed and enthusiastic people to join our team.
