A Plymouth based voluntary run monthly activity club for all disabled children and their families.
Our aims are:
To provide monthly family activities for children with special needs, enabling families to have the opportunity for socialising and companionship.
Enhancing family life and eliminating isolation often felt by families effected by disability.
Offering access to hydrotherapy and dance workshops.
Why the community needs usWe hold the monthly activity club and we regularly meet up for social activities during holiday times. We witness how all the children benefit by being with their peers/siblings in a social environment. Although some of our children have little or no communication, to visually witness their facial expressions and hear their squeals of delight when having the opportunity to participate in fun activities such as hydro and dance is proof enough that we are offering a very much needed service.
Our impact on the communityThe group makes it possible for parents to discuss any worries and concerns they have and receive valuable information from other parents. Socially all can get together as a family with no fear of being stared at; the group gives a sense of belonging. The group arrange fantastic outings that are wheelchair accessible, the children both able bodied and disabled can get together feeling comfortable and have lots of fun. Both parents and children make great friends, life is greatly enhanced.
